How to Build a Picnic Table – A Simple Weekend Project
Share
Looking to upgrade your backyard with a classic picnic table you built yourself? This project is a favorite among beginner woodworkers and DIYers — and for good reason. It’s simple, sturdy, and makes the perfect spot for family dinners, BBQs, or weekend hangouts.

🔧 What You’ll Need:
Standard 2x6 and 2x4 lumber
Drill and circular or miter saw
Measuring tape
Exterior wood screws
Wood glue (optional)
Outdoor wood sealer or paint
🛠 Step-by-Step Overview:
1. Cut Your Lumber
Start with the legs, seat supports, and tabletop planks. Use 8' boards and refer to the cut list for exact sizes.
2. Assemble the Frame
Connect the leg assemblies with cross braces and seat supports. Use clamps and check for square.
3. Attach the Tabletop & Benches
Space your slats evenly and screw them into the supports. Pre-drill to avoid splitting.
4. Sand & Seal
Smooth any rough edges and finish with outdoor sealer or paint for durability.
