How to Build a DIY Doghouse (Even if You’re New to Woodworking)
Share
Your dog deserves more than a store-bought plastic box — why not build a custom shelter that's sturdy, stylish, and weather-protected? This doghouse plan is made for real people with basic tools and a weekend to spare.

🧱 What You’ll Need:
2x2 lumber for the frame
¾" plywood or polywood panels for walls and floor
Screws and wood glue
Optional: hinges, exterior paint, or stain
🏠 Build Steps (Simplified):
1. Build the Frame
Start with a square base and upright corner posts. Use clamps and glue for stability.
2. Add Floor & Walls
Attach slats or plywood panels to form the outer box. Optional trim can be added for decoration.
3. Cut the Door Opening
Adjust the door height based on your dog’s shoulder height. Cut carefully and sand edges.
4. Add Roof Panels
Use plywood or slatted panels angled for water drainage.
5. Finish the Build
Seal, paint, or stain your project. Optionally add feet for ground clearance.
